Note: IDS 105 80 meets 4/20/18 and 4/21/18. This course will examine the themes of cultural diversity and social inequality through an exploration of literary work in its original language, as well as in translation. The IDS weekend is both a course and a festival. Students will take part in the second annual La Guagua Literary Festival, a conference in which guest writers and literary translators present their original work. Students will participate in breakout sessions organized into three tracks: creative writing, translation and publishing. All students will reflect on their experiential learning through mentor/mentee engagement with writers, translators and publishers, and will engage in online discussion forums and reflect on their experience through a reflective writing assignment and/or through original creative work or translation. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
