ENG 089 - Academic English for Bilingual Students Educated Within US |
This course is designed to support the bilingual, US-educated student in mastering the mechanics of academic reading and writing. It will emphasize critical reading and responding to complex texts plus writing college-level essays that incorporate facts and opinions from the readings. It will include just-in-time instruction in grammar, punctuation, vocabulary, and critical thinking required for success in ENG 101, English Composition I. A portion of instruction will take place in a computer classroom. Prerequisite: Placement above ELL 055 or successful completion of ELL 055 with a grade of C or better. Notes: Students who complete the course with a C or better and meet current departmental exit standards are eligible to enroll in Composition I with Writing Skills Seminar (Accelerated Learning Program) or Composition I.
